My brother Sean was over last night. We were discussing a situation he is involved in and going around and around it looking at possible solutions. We were hard pressed to find any one thing or even two things or ten things that seemed like adequate solutions. In the middle of it he received a phone call and it sounded like the situation had just upped itself a notch on the scale of un-solvability.

While Sean was on the phone I took the opportunity to pray and ask the Holy Spirit for advice. I suppose I should have done that in the beginning but the conversation between us got rolling and we found ourselves attempting to find solutions from our own intelligence (or lack thereof as the case may be). As I prayed the Holy Spirit began to give me a different view of the situation. Remember the Holy Spirit is referred to often as a dove in scripture, so I guess you could say I started to get in on “a bird’s eye view” of what was happening.

What I was shown was the spiritual view of the situation and the actions and reactions of the people involved. A thing I’ve been taught over the last number of months is that everything in life is spirit. It’s either the Holy Spirit or something else, but it is all spirit nonetheless.

What we see on the screen of life is simply the visible manifestation of invisible things working behind the scenes in the spiritual realm. So, the Holy Spirit basically said, “Contrast what you know about Me and the fruit of My activities at work and what you are witnessing among these people.”

It became very clear at that point the spirits at work and influencing the situation were demonic. What a great lesson to learn! What a simple way to for the Holy Spirit to teach at least an initial understanding of Jesus gift of discernment of spirits. So when Sean was done on the phone we talked about this and in light of what the Holy Spirit was showing it was clear to both of us what was going on.

Before we concluded, we prayed and invited God right then and there to enter into the situation and turn on the lights, exposing the cockroaches of demon spirits so they can be seen and dealt with and people’s lives could be delivered and healed by Jesus. I think we both felt the power of the Holy Spirit, like He was pretty jazzed to jump into the middle of this thing and show the world His stuff. I really believe God just loves to get into the middle of these things and show the power of salvation. Often He is just waiting for our invitation.

Under the authority of the ASCENDED LORD, JESUS, we bound the spirits and called the judgment of God down upon them in rebuke to their damaging, hateful operations on these people. But there was one thing we realized and that was because of what we just did by the Spirit of God, the situation would likely get worse before it got better.

This happens because the pressure and presence of God moving into a situation will first expose and bring to the surface the working of the evil spirits. Without a hiding place they will be seen clearly for what they are. As they are uncovered it will get much more ugly before it gets more beautiful (by the way, for those who care, I just realized there is a thought in this regarding Adam and Eve before the fall being naked and not ashamed and then being naked and ashamed, but that’s spinning off on a different topic – of sorts). God is going to bring the light of judgment and shame on these spirits. The whole Biblical picture of what happens to an enemy in defeat is they are carried away in bondage and paraded naked before all. Defeat means maximum humiliation and a total spoiling of the enemy.

My point is this. Jesus is moving those who are following Him into a level of spiritual warfare in which the authority they move in will be phenomenal. With the ASCENSION OF THE LORD, JESUS CHRIST to the pinnacle of all universal power, those under His authority will exercise His authority over evil spirits in a direct, confrontational and victorious way.

This authority, and faith in His authority in them, will empower them and encourage them to command the evil spirits. As the followers exercise this command in the name of THE ASCENDED LORD, JESUS these spirits will obey their command. They have no choice because Jesus authority is supreme.

I leave you with this from Mark 1:27, “And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, ‘What thing is this? What new doctrine is this? For with authority He COMMANDS EVEN THE UNCLEAN (EVIL) SPIRITS, AND THEY OBEY HIM.”

Jesus is still doing the same today but from His position of total power in all the universe. That’s heavy. That’s authority. That’s power. He commands the evil spirits and they obey Him. The same power Jesus exercised on earth then is the same power He exercises against the darkness now, the only difference is now He does so through those who follow Him. Jesus ascended on high, and gave His gifts to men.
